A design mandate was commissioned by IISD-ELA to develop a new 10,000 square foot education and training center. This center will serve as a focal point for environmental education, freshwater research, public engagement, and outreach in Northwestern Ontario. Designed with both students and visitors in mind, the facility includes classrooms, seminar rooms, a dining hall, reception area, gallery space, and accommodations.
The primary aim of the building is to expand the reach of ELA, a network of 58 freshwater lakes and their watersheds where scientists conduct research and experiments on entire ecosystems. Collaborating closely with IISD-ELA to ensure that the design embodies their core values of innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity was a must. The project is currently underway, and we eagerly anticipate its completion.
